Gordy and Lindsay met each other at Cumberland College in the fall of 1999. Lindsay had just transferred there to play college basketball. Soon they became close friends and remained that way until 2002. It was then that they started dating and six months later were engaged. Gordy graduated from Cumberland on May 10, 2003 (Lindsay 2002) and 7 days later they married (May 17).
They moved back to Gordy's hometown, Somerset, KY, and started working with his home congregation (Cumberland church of Christ). After working as a part-time youth minister, while maintaining a full-time job at the hospital for 2 years, they decided to answer God's call for full-time ministry. In August of 2005, they moved to Leesburg, FL, to accept the Youth ministry position at the South 14th Street church of Christ. After laboring there for 2 and a half years, they accepted God's call to lead the student ministry here at West Orange.
They have been at West Orange since June of 2008 and it has been awesome! God is continuing to bless His church here and the student ministry!
Personal Note from Gordy and Lindsay: We share a passion for Jesus! More than that we share a passion for students. For those that don't know the Savior, we want to introduce them to Him. For those that are already walking with Christ, we want to help lead them to a deeper and more meaningful relationship. And the only way we can help students do that is by modeling that with our lives!
There is also one other thing is that is very unique about our Student Ministry here at West Orange. We incorporate other adults into our ministry known as Lifeguards. Our Lifeguards are not volunteers nor are they parents of our students. Lifeguards are people who give their lives, their time and their energy to our ministry. They serve as mentors, teachers, chaperones and much much more. Lindsay and I could not do what we do for the students without them. They are AWESOME!
Tidbits:
Gordy and Lindsay have two children: Lain, 6, and Noah, 4.
They love to all go on family bike rides.
Lindsay is from Hendersonville, TN, just north of Nashville. She is the middle child between two brothers.
Gordy is from Somerset, KY, which is the southeast part of the state. He is the middle child as well in between two sisters.
We are a sports-oriented couple. We watch and play almost every sport.
Lindsay's fav teams: Tennessee Volunteers (especially the Lady Vols) and Tennessee Titans
Gordy's fav teams: Kentucky Wildcats, Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Reds
Lindsay's #1 Addiction: Contemporary Christian music. She is a music guru. She can't get enough of it.
Gordy's #1 Addiction: Fantasy Sports. He is active in fantasy basketball, baseball, and football.
